Beta · Free mag card

The mag card for crews shooting on film.

Film Kit is a digital mag card and camera report for 16mm, 35mm and other analog formats. Time each take from roll to cut, calculate footage and generate an End of Day Report. The mag card is free. Film is expensive enough. Your takes and exports are never behind a paywall.

Try it first

A five-day shoot, ready to explore.

One mag at every stage, from loaded to locked and sent. Change anything you like: your own projects stay as they are.

Used on a real shoot

Five days, 35mm, every shot in the plan.

I tested Film Kit on Question 17. We planned two takes a shot, got every shot on the list, and adjusted each day from real-time information instead of guessing where we were.

Plan it, then shoot it

The plan and the camera report stay in step.

Break scenes down by eighths and spread them across your shoot days. Line up the shot list with the script and build the call sheet from the plan. What you shoot feeds back into the planning tools.

Planning tools will be a paid tier when they are ready. Until then, a padlock marks them as in testing.

  • ScriptRead it, line it to shots, see coverage by scene.
  • StripboardScenes by day, counted in eighths.
  • Shot planShots over the days, with lens changes and kit checks.
  • Call sheetEach day's schedule, measured against what actually happens.
  • Work DaysWho works which day, with clashes.
  • Forms and BoardProduction paperwork, and the forecast of film left.

Help shape the beta

Come and break it.

Put Film Kit through a real shooting day. Tell me what’s confusing, what slows you down and what’s missing from prep to the final report.

A note from the maker

Film Kit is helping me make a film and I hope it helps you make yours. I’m also making my graduate film, How to Grow a Ghost. Here’s how the two fit together. The mag card is free. Shooting on film is expensive, and I don’t want keeping track of your negative to be another cost. The companion tools I’m building for shoot planning will be paid. Money from those tools will go towards the film. Meanwhile, this beta lets us collaborate: what holds up, what gets in the way, and what needs fixing.

Your shoot helps shape the tools. The tools help fund mine.
